amazing AR and customer service!
Trojan firearms went the extra mile for me in my process of buying my TFA-UL15 (previously known as the UL line). I had many questions about the rifle all were answered promptly and completely. I had certain request pertaining the set up of my rifle and they honored everyone of them with out hesitation even offering extended options free of charge. Needless to say I'm stoked with my rifle, it feels so light and maneuverable but just as, if not more solid, than one of my heavier rifles. The next AR I get will definitely be from TFA.

Come All Ye Gratefu, Joyful and,...
Greetings All,
This past weekend I had an opportunity to shoot with a group of friends, relatives and a few colleagues. It’s another distinct advantage of living near the El Dorado National Forest and sharing a common interest in firearms with my fellow Americans.  We had a diverse group of shooters from novices to seasoned professionals with military and competitive experience.  The day also featured a host of weapons that included a variety of pistols, rifles and shotguns.  As a certified NRA Range Safety Officer and Range OIC in the National Guard I’ve conducted numerous live-fire ranges.  However, this day was decidedly different as we had the opportunity to shoot three custom AR rifles designed and created by Trojan Firearms.  Each of these weapons are hand crafted from quality parts, well balanced, accurate, and extremely fun to shoot!  Our only regret was having to close our impromptu range early due to safety concerns with limited daylight.  In short, this was an amazing experience and we all had a BLAST!
Let me be clear, I don’t claim to be an ‘expert’ shooter or rifleman but I do enjoy the sport and have handled my share of firearms to include the German MP7, MG3, G36 and HK 9mm, (during a 2010 Schutzenschnur event in Kosovo).  More recently I’ve had the good pleasure to meet and be acquainted with Joe Salmeri the Chief Engineer at Trojan Firearms.  This past week I stopped by TF in Sacramento, CA to ask if Joe wanted to join me and my fellow Americans for a day in the forest?  He welcomed the opportunity and explained how he wanted to get more trigger time with his latest prototype the TFA-PCC9 (previously known as the PRO line) 9mm Carbine, (before the Shot Show in Las Vegas).  Having handled his previous AR incarnations, (the TFA-UL15 (previously known as the UL line) Feather Weight and TFA-15 (previously known as the MP line)) I was also itching for a chance to shoot one of these precision crafted weapons and put a few rounds down-range.  I wasn’t disappointed and the TFA-PCC9 (previously known as the PRO line) was an added bonus.
First the TFA-UL15 (previously known as the UL line) is the feather weight version of the TF AR platform and an ergonomic dream to hold and shoot.  The key-stock rail just fits like a glove and it’s extremely well balanced (front to back and side to side).  Moreover it feels like a single integrated rifle and nothing like a traditional take-down style AR.  The tolerance and fit is amazing as each upper is matched with its’ lower.  Joe has designed a drop-in trigger with a lighter pull that can be adjusted to suit the individual shooter’s preference, (a very nice feature). The TFA-UL15 (previously known as the UL line) also features an adjustable gas block so you can fine tune the recoil of the bolt carrier group for competitive shooting.
Standing prone I shot a ten round grouping about the size of a golf ball at 25 yards.  It should have been better but my eyesight and tactical shooting skills have waned in recent years.  The good news is the TFA-UL15 (previously known as the UL line) was paired with an inexpensive Vortex 3x9 power scope that makes reacquiring the target quick and easy. Again, I wish my eyesight and shooting skills were on par with this weapon’s true capabilities.  And I almost forgot to mention the recoil because there really isn’t any.  Again the pairing of the compensator, high grade barrel and gas block makes this little shooter a true gem.  It fires straight and true with every round just like a standard M1 or Winchester 30/30.  I am certain with a little practice and a few extra rounds I would become competitive beyond my natural ability in short order.  Even the price point $1,600.00 is a bargain, (IMHO).
The TFA-UL15 (previously known as the UL line) has a big brother, the TFA-15 (previously known as the MP line) which is just a solid as the TFA-UL15 (previously known as the UL line) but comes with a series of upgraded parts that can be configured with a variety of different options and features.  The price point is also a little bigger and matched with a stellar 1x5 Vortex Scope with an illuminated red dot and front focal plane.  This version runs closer to the $3K range and is about 1.5 lbs heavier.  Additional options include an ambidextrous side pull charging handle and muzzle break that Joe designed to complement this specific weapon system. This is where serious shooters pony up and put their money where their mouth is, (and would be hard pressed to find a better value).  If I had the discretionary income my wallet would be 3 G’s lighter.  It reminds me of when I began riding motorcycles with my first Honda 250cc that somehow became a GL1100 a few years later.  Shooting is no different, and the TFA-UL15 (previously known as the UL line) is a practical choice for the beginner and the TFA-15 (previously known as the MP line) for more experienced and seasoned shooters.
Of course the best is yet to come.  The PTFA-PCC9 (previously known as the PRO line) 9mm Carbine is the best of both worlds because it lets you use the same 9mm magazine from you Glock sidearm in an AR platform.  And like its siblings the TFA-UL15 (previously known as the UL line) and TFA-15 (previously known as the MP line) it is tightly fitted, has a solid feel and is a joy to shoot.  Paired with the Vortex 1x5 Vortex Scope with red dot and front focal plane I couldn’t miss.  I could have kept shooting all day, (but didn’t want to be rude).  I also appreciate the 9mm has a lower velocity that still packs a good punch up close.  As a tactical matter, my preference is to get the job done and move on without the worry of a high velocity round going through walls and hitting stray targets like animals, neighbors or fellow operators.
After letting loose with a few magazines we went down range to check targets.  The 223 rounds pierced through both sides of the heavy oak pallets with nice, neat little round holes.  The 9mm Carbine however made one hell of a mess blistering both sides of the pallets with a grouping of 2-3 inches.  This grouping was consistent amongst all shooters and again likely to improve with a little practice or firing from a supported position.  In all it was my favorite weapon of the day and brought back memories of Audie Murphy shooting his Thompson 45 in To Hell and Back.  Despite being a little naughty this year I sure hope the TFA-PCC9 (previously known as the PRO line) makes its way onto Santa’s list in time for Christmas.  And for anyone headed to the Shot Show in Las Vegas (Jan 17-20, 2016) be sure to stop by Trojan Firearms and witness the quality of hand crafted precision first hand.  Ask for Joe and hear what your fellow Americans are saying about TF and how it’s improved their shooting skills and enjoyment of the AR as their weapon of choice.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Respectfully,
Don Engel
